16 Horizon EU calls for battery innovation

Only recently, the Dutch government announced its intention to cooperate with Germany in the development of innovative battery technology. As much as we welcome this collaboration, the publication of the Horizon Europe Work Programme 2023-2024 Cluster 5 (Climate, Energy and Mobility) is at least as newsworthy. Indeed, it contains no fewer than 16 calls related to the BATT4EU Partnership, the European public-private partnership that aims to boost innovation in the battery value chain.

The work programme covers the entire battery value chain

Anyone scanning the work programme for calls that may be of interest to parties engaged in battery innovation may get the impression of reading a description of the complete battery value chain. And in fact, that is exactly what it is. From raw materials to end-of-life and all the steps in between: through the 16 calls, there is a complete demand to help build a strong, self-sufficient and independent battery ecosystem in Europe.   • Horizon-CL5-2023-D2-02-01: Advanced materials and cells development enabling large-scale production of Gen4 solid-state batteries for mobility applications
